you a presentation about his wines and show you the production process. He’ll
even invite you to participate in a tasting of his vintage wines.

Athens & Its Scenic Coast
Port: Athens (Piraeus), Greece
|
Tour Code: PIR_51
|
This
cruise shore excursion is an ideal introduction to the city’s highlights. Reach
the natural fortress of the Acropolis, and with your guide you’ll walk up the
uneven footpath heading to the summit. Sights include the Propylaea, Temple of
Apteros Niki, Erectheum and the Architectural Triumph of the Parthenon. Continue
with a city drive and see Constitution Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,
Royal Palace, Hadrian’s Gate and the Old Marble Olympic Stadium. After lunch,
drive along the scenic coastal road which affords splendid views of the Saronic
Gulf and takes you through some of Athens' most beautiful suburbs. Arrive at
Cape Sounion to visit the Temple of Poseidon, standing some 200 feet above the
sea at the edge of a cliff. It is one of the most breathtaking and deeply
moving sights in all of Greece. Fifteen of the original 34 columns of the Doric
order still stand in majestic splendor. Note: The Acropolis is explored on foot
and requires approximately two hours of walking. There are some 75 steps at the
entrance and in certain locations the marble is uneven and slippery. During
summer months and when there are many ships at the port of Piraeus, expect
extreme overcrowding at the sites with possible waiting time to enter,
especially at the Acropolis. Temperatures can reach extreme highs during summer
months; we recommend that you drink a lot of water and use suitable sun
protection. Please also be aware that there is much less congestion, both at
the sites and in traffic during winter time, so tour durations may be slightly
shorter than listed in the descriptions; the content of the tour will not be
affected.

Ephesus
Port: Kusadasi, Turkey

Combine
the most relevant sites of the area, of great historical and religious values,
with a typical Turkish lunch. Drive to the House of the Virgin Mary where she
is believed to have spent the last years of her life. Today, it’s a place of
pilgrimage. Begin your exploration of the ancient site of Ephesus as you pass
by the Magnesia Gate. See the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of
Scholastika and the Library of Celsus.
St. Paul
preached at the Grand Theater, one of the largest theaters in antiquity with
24,000 seats. Visit the remains of St. John's Basilica which overlooks Ephesus.
Once a great church, it was built over a 2nd century tomb thought to hold the
remains of St. John. While the church is now in ruins, there are frescoes,
mosaics and graceful columns that attest to its former glory. You’ll stop for
an interactive show and a traditional Turkish lunch at Ephesus Park. Back in
Kusadasi, stop for a brief carpet presentation and refreshment as well as time
for shopping or return to your ship, which is within walking distance.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 1/2
miles over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with inclines and over 50 steps.
During summer months, expect crowded venues and long lines as well as very high
temperatures. We recommend that you drink a lot of water, use suitable sun

Ancient
Salona & Trogir Medieval City
Port: Split, Croatia
|
Tour Code: SPU_07
|
In
Solin, the site of the ancient Salona, it will seem as if time has stood still.
At the time of its greatest prosperity (3rd and 4th centuries), Salona had approximately
40,000 inhabitants while Split did not even exist. Archaeologists have
excavated remains of temples, amphitheaters, early Christian churches, burial
grounds and baths. We can certainly say that in Croatia, this is the most
important excavation site from Roman times. After your tour in Salona, you’ll
drive along the beautiful Riviera of the Seven Castles to the charming town of
Trogir. This tiny island is connected to the mainland with a bridge and is
situated in between the mainland and the larger island of Ciovo. Trogir is
completely occupied by spectacular constructions in stone-houses, palaces,
churches, monasteries, towers and walls, except for the green parks on the
island. The streets are narrow and they truly give a feel of how life might
have been in the old days. You’ll visit the main attraction in Trogir - the
Cathedral of St. Lawrence which is probably the finest example of Sacral
architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three
semi circular apses dominates the entire town. The main portal carved by the
local artist, Radovan, in the 13th century is world famous. Other fine
buildings that you’ll see are the Town Loggia, the Town Hall and Cipiko Palace.
Note: During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long
lines. We recommend that you dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, a hat,
sunglasses and bring bottled water. Guests must be able to walk approximately
1/2 mile over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with 15-30 steps. Guests who are
planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress
appropriately. No bare shoulders or shorts are allowed. Time permitting; you’ll
have approximately 40 minutes for shopping and browsing.

Palace erected by the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The walking tour starts with a
walk through the cellars that are still very well preserved. The cellars offer
a good idea of how life in the palace was organized. You’ll also see the very
interesting Cathedral of St. Duje (patron saint of the city). The cathedral is
built on the remains of an ancient shrine and is supposed to be the oldest in
the world. Other sites such as the Golden Gate, the Silver Gate and the
